Meet our Butterfly Baby!

Millie Ullman
Born: 6.15 @ 11:38am
6 lbs. 15 oz., 20 inches

My very last pregnancy picture! On our way to the hospital, Michael insisted on stopping by his office for a Mountain Dew and a Muscle Milk. He knew he was in for the long haul.

Can you tell we're thrilled to meet our new little one? We're dressed in our finest, on our way to the O.R.

And there she is! The operation was very easy; we had a phenomenal team of doctors and support staff. Our OB is famous for playing music as he operates. He offered us country, but between a couple Shania Twain songs and Willie Nelson's "Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be Cowboys," we insisted he switch genres. So while our baby was being born, we listened to Creed's "Arms Wide Open" and Billy Joel's "New York State of Mind."

This time I was able to hold my baby right away.

Proud dad with baby and doctor. Jeff Quinn has been our OB for both babies, but our connection goes back even further. He's been the Hansen's neighbor and friend for years, and worked as Michael's youth leader at church. We love his positive spirit and calm manner, as well as his expertise.

Sophie was Millie's first visitor, of course. She's an extremely proud and helpful big sister, unbelievable really. With every visit to the hospital, she immediately asked "Where's Baby Sister?" She has been (gently) hugging her and singing her lullabies ever since.

Here are some more Big Sister pictures:

Last week, as we continued to debate what to name the baby, we asked Sophie (once again) for her input. Fiona? No. Sierra? No. Then, she came up with her own idea: Butterfly. She has been Butterfly to Sophie ever since, so we've all decided to call her that. Ironically, weeks before Sophie named her Butterfly, Michael had ordered me a special gift to commemorate the birth of our daughter, a silver necklace with a butterfly pendant. I haven't taken it off yet.

One highlight for Sophie was taking Butterfly for walks in the hall. We had to stop her a few times from running into the walls or taking off like a rocket.

Our very first family picture. We may appear a little thrashed, having spent five days in Hotel de Hospital. But boy, are we ever happy to be a complete little family!

Headed home. Two car seats in the back. Wow. Are we really a family of four?

Now that we're home, reality is setting in. But it is a good reality. Sure, we've lost some sleep, with many more sleepless nights expected. However, coming home from the hospital yesterday felt like the first day of the rest of our lives. I feel like we're standing on the edge of a beautiful forever with our two sweet little girls, and can't wait to experience all the happiness that is to come. I am completely overwhelmed, but filled with the most indescribable joy.

This is great news! We're so happy for you guys. It is surreal taking home that extra kid, but then you wonder how you lived without her! Sophie looks like she's already the best big sister there is. She should come and give lessons to my girls! :) Congrats!
