The Mantle of Our Family

Over the course of the last couple of weeks, I've spent several fulfilling hours taking down Christmas cards, vacuuming up (fake) pine needles, and reclaiming the space in my living room that was filled with the tree and all the trimmings. Readers: Yawn.

Ok, stop being bored. Or continue, I don't care. I just thought I'd share one of the transformations.

Before: I had sacredly and gently laid out our beloved Nativity scene, the olivewood set my husband brought home from Jerusalem, front and center on our living room fireplace mantle. I bet "Ave Maria" was playing at the time. Then one day, I notice the aforementioned husband made his own "additions." I know the picture is dark, but maybe you'll make out the Star Wars figurines. Yes, that's R2D2 next to the newly born Prince of Peace. And those are My Little Ponies standing watch with the sheep and camels. I loved his contribution, and just had to leave it up until just a few days ago...

After: As much as I love Christmas decor, by January I'm always anxious to move to the next thing. I've taken the wreath off our front door and replaced it with a little red hanging heart with ribbons. And this is what I did after the Nativity went bye-bye. Part of me recognizes I could add some little red and pink heart streamer or something, but I'm sick of stuff in my house so this is it.
