Helpless

As we speak/type, Michael and Sophie are road tripping to California with my in-laws. Because of a prior commitment, I will be flying out to meet them in the morning. This feels WEIRD. I prepared an emergency bag organized with sections for diapers/wipes/changing pad, snacks/drinks, entertainment, and clothes. Heck, I even labeled the clothes in separate gallon Ziplocs by "Jammies," "Emergency Clothes," and "Saturday Outfit." I hoped to cover all the essentials, plus equip my hubby for emergencies. Michael even said my excessive labeling and preparation made him feel dumb, that he's been a parent for 2 1/2 years, and he can handle a road trip. So he just called sounding nearly suicidal from Primm, Nevada to report her second barf attack. I'm dying here, feeling so extremely helpless...

To combat my sad helpless feelings, I'll post a few pictures from recent days. I know it won't help my little family in the middle of the desert, but maybe it will help me. Here are some randoms I took at a clothing store while my teenager niece, Megan, tried on skinny Hudson jeans. Not to be outdone, Sophie and cousin Allie played dress up in their own dressing room, including handbags.

Last Saturday, we had NUTHIN to do (how often does that happen?). So we made a day of it, taking Grandpa Zede to breakfast, followed by a trip to the Natural History Museum. Sophie loved the dinosaurs (she's into them lately) and sang like Pocahontas in the Native American Replica Hut. In the evening, still antsy for activity, we made Mommy/Daughter chocolate cupcakes with sprinkles (and ate too many of them).

Just wanted you to know that we found out the hard way that 6 month olds to at least 3 year olds can throw up a combined total of like 20 times to and from California on the road.

We now fly.
