Grandma Arlene

My daughter, mother, and I share the same middle name...Arlene. We're all fortunate enough to be the namesakes of my amazing grandmother, whose first name is Arlene. This woman is practically legend; she's got all the grandmotherly traits like gentle and kind and generous and snuggly. Plus, she has all these added bonuses like classy and adventurous and funny. I don't know a more perfect woman, for real.

Grandma Arlene was born in Three Forks, Montana...a small town girl. But she dreamed of a bigger life, and ended up in Chicago for Nursing School and Hawaii and then the San Francisco Bay Area, where she raised her family. Luckily for me and Sophie, she is now living in Provo, about an hour away.

Because our schedules often conflict, we get down every other week or so. We go to lunch, usually at Mimi's Cafe, but sometimes Grandma surprises us with a request for a "juicy burger" or Chinese food. Here are some photos of recent highlights from Grandma visits...

Sophie loves Grandma's walker! There happens to be a bar in the back that's just Sophie's size, so she "helps" her push sometimes. Other times, she likes to hitch a ride on the seat!

Grandma is so playful! One time, she had saved an empty paper towel roll and put on a parade around her apartment for Sophie with her "horn." Now, whenever Sophie sees an empty paper towel or toilet paper roll, she puts on her own parade and says "toot toot Grandma."

Last visit, Sophie SCORED big time with birthday presents. She got a box of Disney Princess books (yessss!) and three Shirley Temple DVDs and animal crackers. Grandma always gets it right!

I have to completely agree with you about your grandma. She is one of the best people I know! She is everything a lady should be. I love spending time with her. She is accepting of everyone, always sees the good, and is not judgemental.
